Many school districts use PowerSchool to share grades, attendance and schedules with families. Before you can see anything, you need a parent account linked to your child, which takes a letter from the school and about five minutes.
In this guide I’ll explain how to create a PowerSchool parent account, link more than one child, sign in on the app, and what to do when you can’t log in.
One thing to know first: every district runs its own PowerSchool site, so the exact web address and some steps vary. Your school’s website usually has a “Parent Portal” link.
What you need
- Your district’s PowerSchool web address, from the school website
- The parent Access ID and Access Password for each child. Schools usually send these in a letter or email. The parent Access ID is not the same as your child’s student ID number.
- An email address you check
How to create a parent account
Based on district instructions (steps may differ slightly in your district):
- Go to your district’s PowerSchool parent sign-in page and choose Create Account.
- Enter your name, email, username and password. Note them down.
- In Link Students to Account, enter each child’s name, Access ID and Access Password, and choose your relationship to them.
- Click Enter.
- Open the verification email and click the link.
- Sign in with your new username and password.
You can link all your children to one account. Add each one with their own Access ID and password.
How to sign in on the PowerSchool app
- Download the PowerSchool Mobile app (iPhone or Android).
- Enter your district code. This is a short code, usually four characters, that your school publishes.
- Sign in with the parent username and password you created.
- If you have more than one child, switch between them from the menu.
Some districts say parent accounts can’t be created in the app, so set yours up on a computer first, then use the app.
PowerSchool login not working? Try this
- Check you’re on your district’s site. Signing in on the wrong district’s page won’t work.
- Use your parent username, not your child’s student login.
- Use the Forgot Username or Password link on the sign-in page, then check your email, including spam.
- Access ID rejected? Make sure you’re using the parent Access ID from the school letter, not the student ID. Codes can be case-sensitive.
- Missing a child? Add them under Account Preferences with their Access ID.
- Still stuck? Contact your child’s school office. They can reissue your Access ID and password.
Tips for parents
- Turn on email notifications for grades and attendance if your district offers them.
- Keep your Access ID letter private. It links a parent account to your child’s records.
- Use the school’s official link. Look-alike login pages exist, so start from the school website.
Your child may use other school logins too. See my guides to Clever login, Schoology login (also owned by PowerSchool) and ClassDojo.
