Blocked someone months ago and can’t remember who? Or wondering why a friend’s calls never come through? Your iPhone keeps one list of everyone you’ve blocked, and it takes about 10 seconds to find.
Where to find blocked numbers on iPhone
The location depends on your iOS version.
iOS 26 and later:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Blocked Contacts.
iOS 18 and earlier:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps (iOS 18) and then Phone, or tap Phone directly on older versions.
- Tap Blocked Contacts.
You’ll see every blocked phone number, contact and email address. The same list applies to Phone, Messages and FaceTime.
How to unblock a number
- Open your Blocked Contacts list (see above).
- Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
- Tap the red minus button next to the number.
- Tap Unblock.
The person can now call, message and FaceTime you again. They won’t be told you unblocked them.
How to block a number
- From Phone: open Recents, tap the info button next to the number, scroll down and tap Block Caller.
- From Messages: open the conversation, tap the name or number at the top, scroll down and tap Block Caller.
- From FaceTime: tap the info button next to the contact, then Block Caller.
- From Settings (iOS 26): go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts > Add Blocked Contact.
What happens when you block someone?
- Calls from them don’t ring on your iPhone.
- Messages they send aren’t delivered to you.
- They aren’t notified that you blocked them.
- They can still leave a voicemail, but you won’t get a notification. Blocked voicemails appear in a separate Blocked Messages section at the bottom of your voicemail list.
- Emails from blocked contacts in Apple Mail go to the Bin.
Can I see calls or messages from blocked numbers?
No. Your iPhone doesn’t keep a log of calls or texts from blocked numbers. The only thing you can see is voicemail they leave, in the Blocked Messages section of your voicemail.
Tired of spam calls instead?
Blocking one number at a time doesn’t stop spam callers who use new numbers. Try Silence Unknown Callers in your Phone settings. Calls from numbers that aren’t in your contacts go straight to voicemail. Just remember that this can also silence delivery drivers or doctors calling from new numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I find Blocked Contacts in Phone settings? On iOS 26, Apple moved the list to Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts.
Does blocking on iPhone block WhatsApp too? No. WhatsApp, Instagram and other apps have their own block lists.
Will the person know I blocked them? iPhone doesn’t notify them, but they may guess if their calls go straight to voicemail or messages never show “Delivered”.
