Blooket usually just works, which makes it extra frustrating when it doesn’t: the game won’t load, your game ID is “invalid”, the screen freezes in the middle of Gold Quest, or Blooks show as blank boxes.
The good news is that almost every Blooket problem comes down to one of four things: the game itself, your browser, your device or your school network. In this guide I’ll go through the fixes in the order that solves problems fastest, using Blooket’s own troubleshooting advice.
Quick fix to try first: refresh the page, close other tabs, then open Blooket in an Incognito or Private window. That alone fixes a surprising number of problems.
First, find out what kind of problem you have
| What you see | Most likely cause | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| “Game not found” or invalid game ID | Wrong code, or the game hasn’t started or has ended | Fix 1 |
| Blooket won’t load at all, or says it’s blocked | School filter or Google Workspace settings | Fixes 2–3 |
| Images or Blooks don’t show | Network or firewall blocking parts of Blooket | Fix 4 |
| Game lags, freezes or kicks you out | Device, browser or Wi-Fi overload | Fixes 5–10 |
| Everyone’s Blooket is broken at once | Blooket outage | Fix 11 |
Fix 1: Game ID not working
- Use the right site. Students join at play.blooket.com (or blooket.com and click Join a Game). My Blooket Join guide walks through it.
- Check the code. Game IDs are numbers only. Re-type it rather than copying it with extra spaces.
- Ask if the game is live. You can only join while the host has the game open. If the teacher has ended it or the lobby has closed, the ID stops working.
- Homework games use a link or ID that expires on the date the teacher set.
Fix 2: Blooket is blocked at school
If you see a “blocked” or “access denied” page, Blooket’s own advice is to use the request access option and let your school’s Google Workspace administrator know. Students can’t fix this themselves, and you shouldn’t try to get around school filters.
Teachers: ask IT to allow Blooket. Blooket’s help centre recommends allowlisting .blooket.com, and notes that some firewalls with SSL inspection can block the services Blooket uses.
Fix 3: “Sign in with Google” doesn’t work
If students can’t sign in with their school Google accounts, your Workspace admin may need to update third-party app access for Blooket in the Google Admin console. Blooket has a help article for admins on exactly this.
Fix 4: Images or Blooks aren’t showing
Blank images usually mean part of Blooket is being blocked by the network.
- Log in to Blooket and open debug.blooket.com.
- Look at the test results. If any test fails, send the page to your school’s technology team so they can adjust the firewall or browser settings.
- If everything passes and images still fail, contact Blooket support at contact-us@blooket.com.
Fix 5: Close other tabs and apps
Blooket game modes are animated and use more memory than a normal web page. Close other tabs, music, video calls and games. On older Chromebooks this one change can stop freezing.
Fix 6: Use Incognito or Private mode
Browser extensions run on every page and can slow or break Blooket. An Incognito (Chrome) or InPrivate (Edge) window turns most extensions off. If Blooket works there, disable your extensions one by one to find the culprit.
A warning: “Blooket hacks” and cheat scripts are a common cause of broken games. They break whenever Blooket updates, can get you removed from a game, and some contain malware. Remove them.
Fix 7: Clear cached images and files
Old cached files can stop Blooket loading properly. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Cmd + Shift + Delete on a Mac), choose Cached images and files, and clear them. You don’t need to delete passwords or browsing history.
Fix 8: Plug in and turn off battery saver
Blooket says performance can drop when battery saver kicks in, usually below about 20%. Plug the device in. In Chrome you can also turn off Energy Saver for now (the leaf icon in the address bar).
Fix 9: Turn on hardware acceleration
Hardware acceleration lets your browser use the graphics chip for animations.
- Chrome: go to
chrome://settings/systemand turn on Use graphics acceleration when available, then relaunch. - Edge: Settings › System and performance.
- Firefox: Settings › Performance, untick “Use recommended performance settings”, then tick hardware acceleration.
- Safari: it’s on automatically.
Fix 10: Restart and update your device
- Chromebook: do a hard restart (hold Refresh + Power) and make sure ChromeOS is up to date.
- Windows or Mac: restart, close heavy apps, and keep the laptop on a flat surface so it doesn’t overheat.
- Phone or tablet: update your browser and close background apps.
Fix 11: Check whether Blooket is down
If the whole class has the same problem at the same moment, it’s probably Blooket’s servers, not you. Errors like “no healthy upstream” point to a server-side problem. Wait a few minutes and try again, and check Blooket’s official social accounts for updates.
Fix 12 (teachers): Make games run smoother for the whole class
- Pick lighter game modes for older devices. Blooket suggests Classic, Gold Quest, Racing and Fishing Frenzy. Heavier modes like Tower Defense 2 and Monster Brawl need newer hardware.
- Let students join in small groups rather than all at once, to avoid Wi-Fi spikes.
- Run debug.blooket.com on a school device before an important lesson.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Blooket keep kicking me out? Usually an unstable connection, a sleeping device or an extension. Plug in, close other tabs, and try Incognito mode. Hacks and cheat scripts also get players removed.
Why does Blooket say my game ID is invalid? The code is wrong, the host hasn’t opened the game yet, or the game has already ended. Check with your teacher.
Can I use Blooket on a phone? Yes, in a mobile browser at play.blooket.com. Older phones may struggle with animated modes.
Why is Blooket so laggy on my Chromebook? Older Chromebooks have limited memory. Close tabs, turn off battery saver, enable graphics acceleration and ask your teacher for a lighter game mode.
