Canvas Student Login: How to Find Your School’s Canvas and Sign In

Canvas is the learning platform many schools, colleges and universities use for courses, assignments and grades. The tricky part is that there isn’t one Canvas login page for everyone. Each school has its own.

In this guide I’ll show you how to find your school’s Canvas, log in on a computer or phone, join a course with a code, and what to do if you can’t sign in.

Step 1: Find your school’s Canvas address

According to Instructure, the company behind Canvas, your school’s Canvas address usually looks like one of these:

• yourschool.instructure.com
• canvas.yourschool.edu

The easiest ways to find it:

• Check your school or university website or student portal. There’s usually a Canvas link.
• Look for a course invitation email from Canvas.
• Use Instructure’s Find my Canvas URL search page, and type your school’s full name, an abbreviation, or your district’s name.

Step 2: Log in on the web

1. Open your school’s Canvas address in your browser.
2. Enter your email, username or login ID, then your password. Many schools redirect you to their own sign-in page (for example Google or Microsoft) instead.
3. Click Log In.

1. Download Canvas Student for iPhone, iPad or Android.
2. Search for your school’s name, or type your Canvas address.
3. Sign in with your school details.

Quick tip: if you’re already logged in on a computer, you can open your Canvas profile and scan the QR code with the app to log in without typing.

Joining a course with a code

If your teacher gave you a join code or a secret course link, you’ll need a Canvas account first. You’ll usually create one through the link your teacher shares. Most schools add you to courses automatically, though, so you won’t need a code.

Canvas login not working? Try this

1. Check the address. Make sure you’re on your school’s Canvas, not the generic canvas.instructure.com page, which is for free Canvas accounts.
2. Use your school login, not a personal email.
3. Reset your password with Forgot Password, if your school allows it. Many schools manage passwords themselves, so you may need to reset it through the school’s IT portal.
4. Clear your browser cache or try another browser.
5. Course missing? It may not be published yet. Ask your teacher.
6. Still stuck? Contact your school’s IT help desk. Instructure can’t reset school accounts for you.
