Edpuzzle lets teachers turn videos into lessons, with questions that pop up as you watch. Before you can see your assignments, you need to join your teacher’s class. How you do that depends on how your teacher set it up.
In this guide I’ll go through each way to join an Edpuzzle class, what to do if you don’t have a code, and a few tips for completing Edpuzzle videos.
What is Edpuzzle?
Edpuzzle is a video lesson platform. Teachers take a YouTube video or their own recording, add questions and notes at points along the way, and assign it to a class. Teachers can see who watched, how much they watched, and how they answered.
How to join an Edpuzzle class with a class code
If you already have an Edpuzzle account, Edpuzzle’s help center says to:
- Log in at edpuzzle.com.
- Click the + next to My Classes in the left-hand menu.
- Enter the class code from your teacher.
- Click Find class, then Join class when the class name appears.
How to sign up as a new student
- Go to edpuzzle.com and click the sign-up button.
- Choose the student option.
- Either sign up with Google, or create a username and password.
If you choose a username and password, you’ll need a class code. Edpuzzle says student accounts can’t be created without joining a class.
If your teacher uses Google Classroom, sign up with Google and pick the same email you use for Google Classroom.
Other ways to join
- A link from your teacher: click it and follow the steps. You don’t need to type a code.
- An open class: go to edpuzzle.com, click Open class, enter the code, click Find class, then type a nickname and click Join open class. You don’t need an account for this.
- Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams or Clever: you’re usually added automatically when you log in to Edpuzzle with the same account. You won’t need a code.
- Canvas, Schoology or another learning platform: open your Edpuzzle assignments from inside that platform rather than on edpuzzle.com.
Don’t have the class code?
- Check for a link or embedded video from your teacher, and use the join option there.
- Ask your teacher or a classmate. Teachers find it under Invite Students on the class members tab, and classmates can see it in the top right corner of the class page.
- If you’re asked for a code but your class uses Google Classroom, Teams or Clever, you’re probably logged in with the wrong email. Log out and sign in with your school account.
Tips for Edpuzzle videos
- Use your real name so your teacher can credit your work.
- Answer every question. The video pauses at each one.
- Don’t expect to skip ahead. Teachers can stop students from fast-forwarding.
- Rewatch if you need to. Going back over a section is usually allowed.
- Stick to a stable connection so your progress saves.
Your teacher may combine Edpuzzle with other tools. See my guides to joining Google Classroom, Nearpod Join and JoinPD for Pear Deck.
