If your teacher has asked you to “go to JoinPD”, they’re using Pear Deck, a tool that turns class slides into interactive lessons. joinpd.com is simply the page where students enter the code to join.
In this guide I’ll show you how to join in under a minute, and what to do when the code doesn’t work.
What is Pear Deck?
Pear Deck adds questions, polls and drawing activities to Google Slides and PowerPoint presentations. While your teacher presents, you answer on your own device, and your teacher sees responses in real time. That’s why you need to join the session first.
How to join with a code
- Open your browser and go to joinpd.com.
- Type the six-letter join code your teacher shows on screen.
- Click Join.
- If asked, sign in with your school Google or Microsoft account.
- You’ll see the lesson on your screen. If your teacher allows anonymous joining, you’ll get an animal avatar and nickname instead of signing in.
How to join with a link
Sometimes your teacher shares a link instead of a code, for example in Google Classroom. Just click the link, sign in with your school account if asked, and you’re in.
JoinPD not working? Common fixes
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Session not found” or the code doesn’t work | Check the code with your teacher. Join codes expire after one week, so ask for the join link instead. |
| It asks you to sign in | Your teacher requires a school account. Sign in with your school Google or Microsoft account, not a personal one. |
| Signed in with the wrong account | Sign out of that account in your browser, then join again and pick your school account. |
| You can’t type or answer | Your teacher may have locked student screens. Wait for them to unlock. |
| “Domain not allowed” | Your school only allows school accounts. Use your school-issued account or ask your school’s IT team. |
Tips for students
- Use a laptop or Chromebook if you can. Drawing and text answers are easier than on a phone.
- Keep the tab open during class. If you close it, rejoin with the same code or link.
- Student-paced mode: if your teacher turns it on, you can move through slides yourself, so watch for instructions.
Tips for teachers
- Share the join link in Google Classroom or your LMS so students don’t depend on codes that expire.
- Require sign-in if you want to see who gave each answer.
- Lock screens when you want students’ attention back on you.
Frequently asked questions
Is joinpd.com safe? Yes. joinpd.com is Pear Deck’s official join page. Be careful with lookalike sites: always type the address yourself or use your teacher’s link.
Do I need an account to join Pear Deck? Only if your teacher requires sign-in. Otherwise you can join anonymously with the code.
How long does a Pear Deck code last? Join codes expire after one week. The join link keeps working, so teachers often share that instead.
Can I join Pear Deck on a phone? Yes, through your phone’s browser, though some activities are easier on a bigger screen.
