Blooket turns a set of questions into a game, and the game mode decides what that game looks like: stealing gold, defending a tower, running a café or hacking crypto. Picking the right mode makes a big difference to how a lesson feels.
In this guide I’ll explain the main Blooket game modes, which ones work live, solo or as homework, which need Blooket Plus, and which I’d choose for different situations. If you just need to join a game, see my Blooket Join guide.
How Blooket works in one minute
- A teacher picks or creates a question set.
- They choose a game mode and host it live, or assign it as homework.
- Students join at play.blooket.com with a game ID. No account is needed for live games.
- Students answer questions to earn whatever that mode uses: gold, cash, crypto, towers or customers served.
Students play as Blooks, cute collectible characters they can unlock with coins. Blooket was created by brothers Tom and Ben Stewart.
The main Blooket game modes
Blooket adds, retires and rotates modes, so your list may look a little different. These are the best known (based on a guide updated in October 2026):

| Classic | Answer quickly to earn points, Kahoot-style. | Yes | No |
| Racing | Answer to move your Blook along a track and use power-ups. Fast. | Yes | No |
| Battle Royale | Head-to-head showdowns, solo or teams, until one is left. | Yes | No |
| Crypto Hack | Earn crypto by answering, and “hack” other players to take theirs. | Yes | Yes |
| Fishing Frenzy | Answer to cast and catch fish. Light-hearted and luck-based. | Yes | Yes |
| Deceptive Dinos | Dig for fossils and catch cheaters in a deduction game. | Yes | Yes |

Seasonal modes such as Candy Quest (Halloween), Santa’s Workshop (Christmas) and Egg Hunt (Easter) appear around holidays.
Which modes need Blooket Plus?
According to the same 2026 guide, some newer modes are Plus only, including Busy Bees, Plushie Panic, Zorblitz, Mini Mine, Laser Tag and Star Grazer. Plus also adds features such as bigger games and, according to one recent pricing guide, homework assignments. A recent pricing guide lists Plus at $4.99 a month billed yearly and the free plan at up to 60 players per game. Check Blooket’s site for current details.
Which mode should you pick?
- Quick, loud warm-up: Gold Quest or Racing
- Straight quiz review: Classic
- Younger students, steady pace: Café
- Strategy and longer sessions: Tower Defense, Factory or Crazy Kingdom
- Homework or absent students: Tower Defense, Café, Factory or Tower of Doom
- Groups who love chaos and stealing: Crypto Hack or Gold Quest
- Low-stakes fun on a Friday: Fishing Frenzy
A note on luck-based modes
Modes like Gold Quest and Fishing Frenzy involve a lot of luck. A student who answers fewer questions correctly can still win. That’s great for keeping everyone engaged, but less useful if you want the leaderboard to reflect knowledge. For that, Classic or Racing are better.
Tips for teachers
- Set a time limit for live games so they don’t run too long.
- Use homework mode for practice, then a live mode in class to review.
- Keep question sets focused: 15 to 30 questions on one topic works well.
- Check reports afterwards for questions most students missed.

Tips for students
- In Gold Quest, don’t spend all your time on chests. Answering correctly still matters.
- In Tower Defense, place towers along the path’s bends where enemies spend longest.
- Avoid “Blooket hack” scripts and sites. They break the rules and can get you removed from the game.
